Happy Birthday: Cyndi Lauper

cyndilauper.jpgHappy Birthday musician Cyndi Lauper

Born: June 22, 1953 in Ozone Park, Queens, New York City, New York, USA

Married to: David Thornton (24 November 1991 – present) (1 child)

QUOTES:

You always have to remember – no matter what you’re told – that God loves all the flowers, even the wild ones that grow on the side of the highway.

I absolutely refuse to reveal my age. What am I – a car?

You can laugh when I talk, but not when I sing. People used to throw rocks at me for my clothes… now they wanna know where I buy them.

On being a feminist: I’m a bra-burner from way back!

I lucked out when I started to sing. I’d already experienced failing at everything else

You can’t stamp out individuality – there’s too many of us.

(on her album “At Last”) It was an idea to do a special project. because people would come see me live and go, “Gee, I didn’t know she could sing.” And I’d be like, “Yeah, you ever tried to sing ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’, pal?”.

There have been great things that happened to me. If they didn’t happen to me, I wouldn’t be here. Everything was supposed to happen to me. I wouldn’t have the sight that I have, I wouldn’t have the creative moments that I have, I wouldn’t be able to articulate what I need to articulate. I wouldn’t have my son. I wouldn’t have my husband. I’m a lucky woman. Everything. Every single thing. There are no mistakes.

Happy Birthday: Erin Brockovich-Ellis

erinbrockovich.jpgHappy Birthday Erin Brockovich-Ellis

Born: June 22, 1960 in Lawrence, Kansas, USA

Married to: Eric L. Ellis (20 March 1999 – present) (filed for divorce)
Steven Michael Brockovich (2 September 1989 – 30 April 1990) (divorced) (1 child)
Shawn Brown (April 1982 – 30 December 1987) (divorced) (2 children)

While working as a paralegal on a pro bono real estate case, Erin sorted through the file and discovered that a public utility company was contaminating a town’s water supply. She then knocked on doors to discuss the problem with residents and helped plaintiffs win $333 million in damages in one of the largest class-action lawsuits in history. Afterwards, a film was made about her life.

Portrayed by Julia Roberts in the movie Erin Brockovich (2000), which won Roberts an Oscar.

After the success of the film about her, she was the target of a blackmail attempt by her first husband and an old boyfriend (the ‘George’ character in the movie) who, with their attorney, threatened to smear her reputation as a parent. She called the police, who recorded his shakedown threats and arrested them. The attorney reportedly served time in prison as a result.

QUOTE:

[on environmental issues] People can’t trust anybody, which is why I get so many emails. People don’t know where to report information. If you see something, say something. Did you notice your water smelled funny? Don’t be afraid to talk about it.

Born: June 22, 1954 in New York City, New York, USA

Died: January 29, 1977 (age 22) in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA

Married to: Kathy Prinze (13 October 1975 – 29 January 1977) (his death) (1 child)

Explained how he got his professional last name by saying, “Bob Hope is the King of Comedy. Everyone knows that. I’d just be content with being the prince”. He later altered prince to Prinze.

His last public performance was less than a week before his death, at the Jimmy Carter Inaugural Gala in Washington D.C.

He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Television at 6755 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.

He appeared on the show “Jack Paar Tonite” with actor Charlton Heston who said that he hoped one day he would able to say he was on the first show on which Freddie Prinze performed.

Roomed with Jay Leno when both were fledgling entertainers, during which time, Prinze learned how to drive a car under Leno’s tutelage.

amybrenneman.jpgHappy Birthday actor Amy Brenneman

Born: June 22, 1964 in New London, Connecticut, USA

Married to: Brad Silberling (30 September 1995 – present) (2 children)

QUOTES:

In court [on the Judging Amy (1999) set], I am completely at ease. And that’s just because I’m imitating my mother.

I know for me, a lot of my 20s was about going off and proving that I wasn’t like my mother. I was so different, I wasn’t going to do anything like her. And then, we all know, you fall flat on your face, because you’re exactly like your parents.

I was very surprised how controversial it [her nude scene on “NYPD Blue”] was, with entire cities not running it – especially because I knew the scenes weren’t gratuitous.

I go to a wonderful Episcopalian church, but I’m also half-Jewish. I’m a real polyglot.

[speaking with Ability Magazine] I started doing plays when I was in seventh grade and I never stopped.
