Interview with Animation Filmmaker Marleia A. Alfaro (BARRY THE BLOBFISH)

matthewtoffolo's avatarMatthew Toffolo's Summary

BARRY THE BLOBFISH played to rave reviews at the December 2017 ANIMATION FEEDBACK Film Festival.

Matthew Toffolo: What motivated you to make this film?

Marleia A. Alfaro: It’s so difficult to come up with new characters that you’ve never seen in animation before. The story of Barry the Blobfish came about and motivated me to finish because it is a 100% original story, written be myself, of a character that no one else has seen before. I love animation and storytelling so in the hardest times of making the film, this thought, the idea and the story itself and what it represents kept motivating me to make it a reality.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this short?

I made the screenplay in sophomore year of college, back in 2011. I conceptualized it for a children’s book, but…

Interview with Animation Filmmaker Ina Conradi (CHRYSALIS)

matthewtoffolo's avatarMatthew Toffolo's Summary

CHRYSALIS was the winner of BEST ANIMATION at the December 2017 Animation FEEDBACK Film Festival.

Matthew Toffolo: What motivated you to make this film?

Ina Conradi: The idea for Chrysalis started in 2014. I have followed up the abstract and surreal structure of my earlier war film Elysian Fields (2013) and continued developing the story about life and death, around the theme of perseverance, metamorphosis and immorality. I wanted Chrysalis to install hope and to reflect on many topics such as life’s purpose and the human desire to explore the inner workings of the mind. However the idea of metaphysical quickly expanded to topics such as evil, dehumanisation, totalitarian governments, and environmental disasters. The quintessence legend of a butterfly summed up all of the ideas well.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this short?

Two years- which is inclusive…

Matthew Toffolo: What motivated you to make this film?

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this short?

It was a long process, I started writing on 2013, we filmed for 3 months at the end of 2015, and the editing and sound design was done by May of 2017. So almost 5 years in the making!

Interview with Filmmaker Will Kim (GLORIOUS VICTORY)

matthewtoffolo's avatarMatthew Toffolo's Summary

GLORIOUS VICTORY played to rave reviews at the December 2017 Experimental FEEDBACK Film Festival.

Matthew Toffolo: What motivated you to make this film?

Will Kim: Two things motivated me.

The 2016 Presidential Election between Trump and Clinton. When I saw them exchanging many pointless arguments to achieve one thing without being aware of the surrounding and the potential results, I thought I wanted to compare them to the two little bugs that fight aggressively for one fig.

There are just way too many fig (June Beetles) at my work in the early fall time and I had been fascinated by how carelessly they fly and hit the trees and buildings and how greedy they are with fruits /foods. Going back to my motivation 1, I thought it’s a perfect comparison to what was going on at the presidential election in 2016.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how…

Interview with the film team of the short film CHRISTINE (Jessica Adler, Kate Montgomery, Stephanie Serra)

matthewtoffolo's avatarMatthew Toffolo's Summary

CHRISTINE was the winner of BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY at the December 2017 LGBT FEEDBACK Film Festival.

1. What motivated you to make this film?

We wanted to tell a story that highlighted the idea that you can be yourself, even if you don’t have words to describe it yet. 2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this short?

Draft one was finished February 20th, 2013. The project continued to grow and evolve until it was officially completed on Valentines Day 2016.

Eyes of Dawn is new look at the life of Mata Hari. It tells the story of a woman far ahead of her time, a woman in touch with the strength, beauty and power of her femininity and her sexuality.
