Get to know the filmmaker:

This film was based on a domestic argument I found recorded on my self tape camera. I lost the argument, I lost the boyfriend, but I won Best Story at TOFFF! After finding said video, I thought it would make for a great short film, where reality is blurred à la cinéma vérité style of the new wave films of the 1960s. I wanted to convey raw authenticity, the unsuccessful balance of career and relationship, and remove the line between fiction and fact. As an actress in LA, I wanted also to explore the audition method where we film so many self tapes using our own homes, our own equipment, and our own readers, in my case, an uncooperative boyfriend.

Filmmaker Podcast: EP. 1181 – PRODUCER/CREATOR KYLE JOSHUA JACOBS (CRISIS)

CRISIS, 6min,. USA
Directed by Patrick Wei
Set against the backdrop of a drought-stricken New York City, this gripping short film delves into the harsh realities faced by its residents as the government imposes a stringent water rationing measure, limiting each individual to just 1 gallon and 3 ounces of water daily. As tensions rise and survival instincts kick in, “Crisis” paints a harrowing picture of the potential consequences of our environmental actions and the lengths to which people might go when faced with the direst of necessities. 1

Get to know producer Kyle Joshua Jacobs:

The driving force behind this film was the realization of a widespread lack of awareness regarding sustainability. Many individuals tend to view sustainability solely through an environmental lens, overlooking its profound social dimensions. Sustainability is inherently intertwined with social behavior, and failing to grasp this concept could lead to potential crises.

Get to know the writer:
The plot is a heist of a dispensary during the peak of Covid lockdown. But the story is about who is winning and losing in the modern American economy. In it, a couple young American males have lost faith in the late capitalist system. History tells us that when young males feel lost en masse, bad things can happen. Here, this group takes a crazy risk with their lives over a compartively small prize. By the start of the film, they have lost faith in institutions, dropped out of higher education, and are pursuing moonshots to achieve what they perceive as success. You could read the story as a mini-revolution with real winners and losers.

Filmmaker Danny Germansen (MANIFESTATION)

MANIFESTATION, 17min., Denmark
Directed by Danny Germansen
“A mentally ill person feels neglected by society and takes revenge.”

Get to know the filmmaker:

1. What motivated you to make this film?

– The film is an inspiration from my own life with a disability and suffering from mental health problems. The motivation is to try to inform and bring awareness about people with deceases living an isolated life outside society and what issues that occur in those peoples life that make them end up, lonely, isolated and outcasted from society. But also show what kind of emotionalle and mental destress that can occure in those peoples lifes.

And also show how society treats and outcasts those who a different and stand out of the crowed or the norm. I based all this on my own experience, but was told by people who is health personal and work with and try to help those people. That my film shows exactly how those people feel and live. I show the problem exactly how it is. And they say that those people do not show up in public spaces and therefore many people do not know that there are people living like this, that those people exists. Hopefully my film will help enlighten some of those issues.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?

– The film was a re-worked of my first amateur short film made in 1999. I wanted to make it again because I could write it better and produce it more professionel then in 2019. I guess the writing of the film has been going on most of my life since then. But it toke a year to write the final script and produce the film and starting to release it to festivals.

3. How would you describe your film in two words!?

Progressive, enlightenment.

4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?

– Getting the blood washed of the street, so it afterwards did not look like an accident or murder happen!

5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?

– It was, Wow! People actual understood the message of the film perfectly and something that I was specially found of, was that the language and tools used in the film to tell the story and feelings of the lead character, was implemented in way that the audience understood and felt the intensity of the lead characters situation, it gives me hope about using this film as enlightenment on health issues, and people living on isolation.

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?

– At an early age I fell in love with fims, since I could’t go out and play ball or climb tress as my friends, because of my disability. I sad at watched and experienced a big world thru film. But when I was 21 I decided to start studying film production and film history and got in to European Film College. From there on I started to do my first films.

7. What film have you seen the most in your life?

– No doubt Star Wars: A New Hope, since I was a kid.

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?

– Have no idea at the moment?

9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?

– Very happy about FilmFreeway It has a lot of features to promote your film and make it look good and its a very easy way to submit to festivals. What a great idea to do a website like that.

10. What is your favorite meal?

11. What is next for you? A new film?

– I was in preproduction with a film when covid-19 hit and the whole world was in lockdown. I had to cancel. Hopefully it will be possible to resume the film in the near future. At the moment I’m busy making music with my band The Radical Beat Underground and preparing to do music videos with the band also.
