G-man and Greg are just two guys trying to get through the day by doing the bare minimum. However, when a vampire hunter appears at their place of business, the pair start to suspect that their sunscreen-loving coworker Kevin is her target. After a few near-misses with the hunter’s traps, G-man and Greg decide to put their lives on the line to save Kevin from her murderous plot—even if he is undead.

Get to know the writer:

What is your screenplay about?

“Kevin’s Not Dead” is about two small town mechanics who are suddenly roped into helping a Romanian vampire hunter fulfill her quest for revenge. However, when her target turns out to be their strange but seemingly harmless coworker, they start to question whose side they’re really on.

What genres does your screenplay fall under?

This screenplay is a horror comedy (emphasis on the comedy).

Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?

I’m a bit biased, obviously, but I think the biggest draw for this screenplay in terms of production value is just that it’s fun! This screenplay offers a campy take on the vampire film that offers a nod to the classics while also keeping a more lighthearted contemporary tone throughout that I think works well for attracting both horror and non-horror fans alike. It’s a relatively self-contained script, as well, which is hopefully appealing in terms of set and budget demands. I think it strikes a good balance of being a low-budget option with a fairly broad audience appeal.

QUOTES:

I never lost my appetite for acting.

Having the critics praise you is like having the hangman say you’ve got a pretty neck.

I’ve learned that life is very tricky business: Each person needs to find what they want to do in life and not be dissuaded when people question them.

But Clint [Eastwood] I love, because Clint was my mentor. I knew nothing about making an Italian movie.

When you have to shoot, shoot, don’t talk.

When I saw the movie, I said, “I wish I had heard the music. I would have ridden the horse differently.”.

I’ve never lost my appetite for acting; it’s innovative and challenging.

And that movie was underrated – Nuts (1987) – because it deals with a terrible subject, but It’s very well done.

And I did Batman (1966), too. I did Mr. Freeze. I get more mail for him than anything I’ve ever done.

Even if I don’t want to slow down, I’m slowing down.

QUOTES:

[on being asked what it was like working with Hugh Grant] “Hugh was brilliant. He helped me a lot by giving me ideas and teaching me something new every day. He really helped me get into my role. He’s my idol now. Him and Jim Carrey – I’d like to work with him one day”.

I don’t like watching myself. I get embarrassed.

[about continue acting]”Yes, definitely, I love it. I’d like to stick to comedy as it’s great fun, or an action movie like “Lord of the Rings”.”

I’ve seen kids who only care about performing; it’s their life and it’s all they have, and it’s not a nice thing to see. It’s unhealthy and if you’re surrounded by showbusiness, that’s what can happen to you.

QUOTES:

[on a scene that was cut in Sucker Punch (2011)] I had a very tame and mild love scene with Jon Hamm. It was like heavy breathing and making out. It was hardly a sex scene… I think that it’s great for this young girl to actually take control of her own sexuality. Well, the MPAA doesn’t like that. They don’t think a girl should ever be in control of her own sexuality because they’re from the Stone Age. I don’t know what the fuck is going on and I will openly criticize it, happily. So essentially, they got [director Zack Snyder] to edit the scene and make it look less like she’s into it. And Zack said he edited it down to the point where it looked like he was taking advantage of her. That’s the only way he could get a PG-13 (rating) and he said, “I don’t want to send that message”. So they cut the scene!
The whole point of our job is to be able to realistically portray a human being and if you don’t experience life, if all you experience is acting and being on set, how on Earth are you going to be able to connect to real people and portray these characters? I realized if I want to do this, I have to have a life.

[on what you bring as an artist] You can’t judge it and you can’t analyze what you do, because what you bring is original and beautiful and special.

In my everyday life I’m a little bit nervous and not particularly brave. I feel like if I can be completely brave in my work then I’m doing something right.

QUOTES:

I usually spend the hiatus of Dexter (2006) in New York in a way to balance things.

In school, I was always being cast as the clown. And then I did The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), and once people hear you scream, they can’t un-hear it. But I don’t mean to say that I’ve been typecast, either.

I just want to be with great teachers. If that means I’m in a horror film with good teachers, I’ll do another horror film. But I would love to branch out and do more comedy or just more straight dramas.

At a young age I always had an entrepreneurial spirit. So I’m trying to develop things on my own, too, and there are a couple things that have absolutely nothing to do with the entertainment business that I’m trying to tackle. We’ll just sort of see.

At a very young age I was predicting outcomes, trying to take all the information and find the best route to wherever I was going. I avoided a lot of pitfalls because of that.

Comedy is like math – you can check your answer because you know you’ve gotten it right if you get a laugh. It just makes sense to me. I feel like because I’ve had to keep that tool in my box for so long, I’m ready to show it off a bit.

I read Christopher McDougall’s book “Born to Run”. If running were a religion, this would be its bible. I actually scribbled my favorite passages on my arm to read during the race.
