  • If you want a dog, go to your local animal shelter and adopt one. It’s not rocket science, it’s dog science.
  • It’s hard growing up in Hollywood, you know? I’m not from L.A. originally.
  • I have to say that one person I learned from the most as an actor in my life is Emmy Rossum. She is so insanely talented in the sense that when watching her work, it just turns into watching her speak – it’s no longer acting; that’s how good she is! She just becomes the person.

  • I think my wife has always been aware, whatever country we have been in, of my dramatic leading man status; a little too dramatic she would probably say.
  • I don’t really have any regrets because if I choose not to do something there is usually a very good reason. Once I’ve made the decision I don’t view it as a missed opportunity, just a different path.

  • On the surface, it’s really easy to dismiss certain characters, but sometimes you find that the most interesting parts are disappointingly shallow. It’s your job as an actress to pull that person apart, and work out why they act the way that they do.
  • I’m starting to shake it off, I am quite self-conscious, and it’s only when I’m playing roles that I can escape that. The older I get, the more people tell me it’s absolutely fine to be the way you are with all your quirks and nuances, and I wish I’d learnt that younger – I would have relaxed a bit more.
  • My style icons would be people like Brigitte Bardot and old Hollywood actresses who always look so stunning, cool and chic. I like classic and timeless looks.

  • [What is the worst thing anyone’s said to you?] “Did we sleep together? Really? Are you quite sure?”
  • [on working with Meryl Streep on Plenty (1985)and A Cry in the Dark (1988)] By the time we did the second I was very comfortable with her. She scared the shit out of me in the first one. I was too young and too bedazzled by her. I was daunted. And I think on day one we had a sex scene. I wonder how many actors have done sex scenes with Meryl Streep. Probably just a handful.

FEEDBACK Toronto Comedy Film and Screenplay Festival is a must for filmmakers because you get direct feedback that allows you to know if your film works. Do people get it? Does it engage conversation? All of these questions were answered and more. Thank you. And Thank you for recognizing the actors that put in a great performance. There is a lot of talent out there and to tip your hat to two of ours, makes us giddy.

Terrific read on my script, did a tremendous job! Great feedback and suggestions. Enjoyed meeting them and had fun on the podcast. Heartily recommend the Toronto Comedy Film and Screenplay festival.

A fantastic festival that gives you audience feedback through a video compilation – nothing I’ve ever experienced a festival do before! It was incredible hearing what people thought of our film and the depth the were able to get from it – it was even slightly emotional hearing what they had to say. A Brilliant festival!

The most communicative staff of all the fests I’ve been involved with. Definitely focused on encouraging and promoting work.
