I have no sense of myself as a sex symbol at all. But the meaning of sex symbol might be a little different in Japan to elsewhere. The Japanese version seems to come with a stronger emphasis on a sort of grownup or mature male charm. And if that’s the case, then I guess I’m happy to hear it.

Each director is different. Clint Eastwood and Chris Nolan are completely different, and I need to adjust to the story and character and the director and just my duty as an actor.

But then Putin introduced anti-gay legislation this summer – so, being a gay person, I switched to Rudolf Nureyev videos instead. It was another Nureyev defection of sorts!

The first time I saw Paranormal Activity 2 (2010) was with an audience, and I was terrified. I can not watch either of the “Paranormal” films, alone.

I tried once to watch Paranormal Activity (2007) alone because I had a different version of it – a new cut. And I said, “Oh, I want to see what they changed”. And I put it in and got to the first knife scene and had to turn it off. I was like, “No, no, no, no, no. I can’t do this”.

I was a ballet dancer growing up and that’s what I was convinced I would be. I was very skinny, braces; so I never thought I would be a model.
