[on shooting on film vs. digital] I definitely prefer film, and always will… If I watch a movie on film, I can watch the worst print with scratches, dirt, hairs and shit everywhere and it doesn’t bother me at all. But on video, if I see a pixel pop up, I want to die. There’s an organic, realistic life to film that you cannot get on DV. Not yet, anyway.

[Regarding Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)] – They all knew the mother-ship was coming, they all knew it was a flying saucer, they all knew it came from another planet through the vacuum of space. And so what do they do, to the left of that monument? They set up runway lights. And I’m thinking, if you could travel through the vacuum of space, you don’t need runway lights. Runway lights are if you’re using air for lift. Aliens would not need air for lift.

[on the difference between Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)] Crystal Skull was more low tech than you might think, although we did do some green screen on it, but not that much. I guess that is the difference, there wasn’t that type of special effects in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). CGI [Computer Generated Imagery] didn’t exist.
