Before joining the cast of “Vikings,” Alyssa appeared in several independent films including The Fortune Theory, Don’t Look Up, and Day on Fire with Olympia Dukakis which screened at the Toronto and Berlin Film Festivals. On the small screen, Alyssa has appeared on NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and Fox’s “New Amsterdam.”

I first got into acting when I was 14, coming back from a junior high school basketball game. My mom picked me up and she had been mentioning, prior to that, this community production of ‘Godspell’, a couple towns over. I was reluctant, at first, and she bribed me with some great dinner that was in that town, neighboring the theater.

The 1990s, in New York at least, were all about who could have the baggiest pants, and I definitely got swept up in that fad. Luckily, it didn’t last long – but I’ve made sure that my pants fit ever since.

[when asked for suggestions on how to judge acting] I have three tests. First, which dominates, the character or the actor? With very few exceptions it should be the character. [on her refusal to appear in Edgeplay: A film about the Runaways] To me, the Runaways is my baby, so you have to understand my perspective. If there’s gonna be a Runaways movie, it should be about what we accomplished, the tours we did, the bands we played with, the people we inspired. I’m not gonna participate in a Jerry Springer fest, bottom line. With any band, you’re gonna have interpersonal conflicts, but if that’s what they thought the Runaways were about, about breaking a bass or putting on make-up, well, it’s very disappointing. Very, very disappointing. I wanted nothing to do with it because that’s not the band I was in. [The film] was a totally different take on what went down.
