I grew up in Chicago, so I’ve always been a Bears fan. Dad used to take me to Bears games and Cubs games. My brother used to ride me over to Lake Forest College on his Honda Supersport and we’d watch the Bears practice. I remember those guys out there as monsters – they were the biggest things I’ve ever seen!

There’s a joke in my family that I’m going to make a career out of playing other people’s younger selves, I played the younger Keira [Keira Knightley], I’ve played the younger Angelina [Angelina Jolie] and more recently the young Margot Robbie.

• As a director, I wouldn’t like me as an actor. As an actor, I wouldn’t like me as a director.
• I am perhaps the best-looking grandfather around, apart from Marlon Brando, of course!

• [on refusing the role of Benjamin Braddock in The Graduate (1967), the role that made Dustin Hoffman a star seven years before Redford obtained super-star status himself] I never did look like a 21-year-old just out of college who’d never been laid.

I like the person who commits and goes all in and takes big swings and then maybe fails; who jumps and falls down, rather than the person who points at the person who fell and laughs. But I do sometimes laugh when people fall down.

I just love bossy women. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term at all. It mans somebody’s passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn’t mind leading.

Awards are not the only markers of success; I don’t judge myself just based on them. I believe that each cinema-goer has his own mental trophies.

You can either extremely love me or extremely hate me. But I don’t allow you to have no feelings for me.

“Before I got Gilmore Girls (2000), I was modeling. I went in for a call and was told, “Sweetie, you need to lose two inches off those hips”. I was 14. So I just replied, “I have more jobs than I can do. I’m in high school. I can’t go to all the trouble of losing the two inches, so I’ll pass”. Someone might tell you to lose weight, but you can say no”.

I was at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts for a year and I loved it. There are a lot of really creative people, there is a constant exchange of an ideas. We talk about what’s been done [in film] and all the rules for filmmaking and then we talk about how to break them.

My film ” BEFORE EVEREST” won best feature film award and got shortlisted for discovery channel as worlds first mountaineering indepth film showing what life is above altitude .wildsound documentary communication was on time and they are doing their best to promote independent cinema and film makers…loved this award from them

• Somebody’s gonna give you some money to perform a job, you do your best to make ’em a good hand…
• It’s no mean calling to bring fun into the afternoons of large numbers of people. That too is part of my job, and I’m happy to serve when called on.

I’m from East Sheen, I went to public school where I learned Latin at the age of nine, and certain expectations were made of me to go to St. Paul’s, Oxbridge maybe, and all that kind of thing. And I failed systematically to meet the mark – who I am and what I should have been are two very different things.
