Was the 95th actress to receive an Academy Award; she won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Moonstruck (1987) at The 60th Annual Academy Awards (1988) on April 11, 1988.

Happy Birthday: Brian Wilson

brianwilson.jpgHappy Birthday musician Brian Wilson

Born: June 20, 1942 in Inglewood, California, USA

Married to: Melinda Kae Ledbetter (6 February 1995 – present) (5 children)
Marilyn Wilson (7 December 1964 – 1979) (divorced) (2 children)

Founded “Sea of Tunes” as The Beach Boys’ publishing company with his father Murry Wilson; eventually lost all his 1960s song copyrights when Murry sold the company at the band’s late-1960s low point. It was later proved that Brian had been tricked and hounded into signing over control to Murry, and documentation for the company was faulty or nonexistent – and “Sea of Tunes” buyers Irving Music had profited directly from this. While Brian couldn’t regain ownership of his early songs, he was ultimately awarded $25 million by a California court, for his loss. Cousin and co-writer Mike Love, in turn, filed for a share of this from Brian, for songs – including “California Girls” – Murry had never credited him with, and was awarded $12 million. (There was reportedly no malice involved in the suit; with the two men unable to come to terms on their own, they turned to the courts to settle the matter.).

Recently revisited his long-shelved “Smile” album (co-written with Van Dyke Parks), finally completing the project, with plans to both release the album and perform it live on tour, with current backup band, Wondermints (March 2004).

The Beach Boys were voted the 12th Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Artists of all time by “Rolling Stone” magazine.

QUOTES:

The first time I put on a dress and a wig and they took a Polaroid of me, I wanted to throw up. Except I saw a little bit of beauty in that I looked like my mother.

My entire family were Democrats all our lives. But because how furious I was about the previous administration and the particular person running that administration, I turned in my card to become a Republican because I did not want to be known as a Democrat under that person’s regime. I’m a traditionalist. I have certain values that I live by, and he practices none of those things, so he can never be what I consider to be a great man. But I don’t go around saying he’s not my president. He’s out of office now, so I can say that I never truly accepted him in my heart. And I’ll never say anywhere down the line, I’ll never reflect back on this moment in time and say it was a good period for the American people. Because the economy was good, anything goes, and that troubles me. I think many of them are very comfortable with money and don’t have to subject themselves to anything other than say, hey – maybe I’m guilty for having all this, and I want to make believe I’m splitting it with the less fortunate. We talk about Hollywood being pro-labor, yet about 70% of our industry has been farmed out to Canada, meaning we are losing jobs like crazy. Where’s organized labor asking how we can allow such a thing to happen? The producers know that if they go to Canada, they can make a picture for one-third the price they can in the U.S.
