Second time screening at Experimental, Dance & Music Film Festival and once again it’s been a great experience. This film festival was an amazing experience from start to finish—seamless streaming, thoughtful programming, and engaging feedback from audience members. I was honored that my film received Best Choreography for their September event, and I couldn’t imagine a more supportive and creative platform to share work with a global community.
The Experimental, Dance & Music Film Festival provided a truly supportive experience for my project Demons. The communication was clear and professional, and the submission process was smooth and easy to navigate. I appreciated how the festival highlighted unique voices in poetry and experimental film, giving space for projects that might not fit into traditional categories.
It was exciting to see my work recognized and included, and I felt that the organizers genuinely cared about celebrating creativity and artistic risk-taking. This is a festival that values innovation and authenticity, and I would definitely recommend it to other filmmakers exploring experimental or cross-genre storytelling.

In-person public screenings, plus other avenues to enhance the filmmaker’s film (audience feedback video, virtual festival, blog & podcast interview).
NOTE: The festival has created a hybrid festival with 4 tiers to enhance your film and your festival experience. All accepted films receive all four tier options:
Tier #1 – Your film plays at a public live event where we will record the audience reactions of your short or feature and then send you the feedback video. Or, it plays at a private festival event where the audience will record their comments/reactions to your film on their camera or phone, then we edit them and send you a promotional video. No matter what you will receive a promotional video of your film of people commenting on your film.
Tier #2 (optional) – We put up your film live on the Film Festival Streaming Service for 30 hours and invite a select industry audience to watch it. With this system, some films have already received a distribution deal, as many platforms are looking for solid feature and short films. We can not guarantee anything, of course but this has been very helpful to many in the past. (see testimonials below.)
Then (Tier #3) we will send you a list of questions to answer for our blog interview that will promote you and your film. Then after that (Tier #4) we will set up a podcast interview on our popular ITunes show where will we chat with you about the process of how the film was made.

The goal of this festival is to showcase the best of new experimental short films and independent music videos from around the world. Films that don’t get a fair shake from other film festivals because programmers don’t know where to “categorize” these films. There isn’t a typical linear story occurring so most festivals can’t truly understand the talent and beauty around these films.
We want to showcase films that showcase true originality and talent from filmmakers from every corner of the globe. And also showcase new musicians who have made a music video and want it to be shown.

We had a wonderful experience with this festival. Communication was clear, timely, and personal. What stood out was the effort they make to build community. We’re grateful that our short film ‘Home’ was awarded Best Art Film. Thank you for creating a space where experimental (dance) films can be seen, heard, and felt.

CLOSER THAN YESTERDAY is a story of resilience and courage that follows Carmela as she trains for the Helsinki International Ballet Competition with her dance partner. This documentary takes an intimate look at what goes on behind the performance of a ballet performance and how it takes to rehearse in order to compete in a prestigious competition.
The rollercoaster ride to Helsinki isn’t easy. First Carmela has surgery to fix an injury, then once she’s healed, her dancing partner has to be replaced the week of the competition because he gets Covid. Esteban’s replacement, Alexis, then has to travel six hours to get a travel visa at the last minute in order to travel to Finland. The tension could be felt through the screen, as the dreams of going to the competition felt like they could be dashed in a moment for all the dancers.
The film is shot in a traditional documentary style, yet it still feels raw. This allows for the viewer to be immersed in the journey with the performers. We are rooting for them throughout the rehearsals and the competition. The pace slows down between the rehearsals and the competition to give the audience time to feel the butterflies that the dancers must have been feeling leading up to the performances. The depiction of ballet shows how grueling of an art form it is, yet beautiful at the same time with the graceful movements of Carmela and Alexis as they move on stage during the competition. The general theme is to keep on dancing and living one’s passion no matter what the outcome of a competition is, because Carmela’s positive attitude stays consistent throughout the entire film no matter what gets in her way so long as she can continue to dance.
