It actually came to me in a dream I had a few years ago, where I lived in a reality where I had been gone for 10 years and no one knew where I went. I came back into my friends’ and family’s lives and saw how my absence affected them. My parents were especially heartbroken. I’ll never forget the moment in that dream when I came face to face with my mother after being gone for 10 years. The sadness, relief and pain in her face and voice haunts my brain to this day and it is what inspired me to write this story.
The story was also based on my own personal experiences with loss in my family. My father’s dad passed away when he was young leaving my dad, uncle, and grandmother alone. My mother’s father had an accident which altered who he was until the day he passed away. Seeing how these events affected my family and how they were all able to bounce back from it made me want to express how there is always hope even after immense loss.
From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take you to make this film?
It took me about a year and a half to develop the script and go into production and post-production. But I actually wrote the story in 2021 and then I adapted it into a script in 2024 because the story resonated more with me then. I finally finished it in April of 2025.
I rewrote the script many times. At one point, I had the mother’s sister in the story as her support system, but I cut her out because I thought it was more important to show Cassandra (the mother) dealing with this loss on her own. Because not everyone has somebody to rely on.
There are so many festivals today, but Fantasy/Sci-Fi Film & Screenplay is very special. I felt like we got to be a part of a really cool community when submitting my film. The audience feedback in particular is great! Thank you so much. I’m honoured to receive a prize for best direction.
Wonderful place to showcase your film. The feedback was very valuable and exciting for the producers to see what resonated.
Hi all! It was great to take part in your film festival. Thank you for the excellent organization of the festival. I will be glad to participate again with my new film.
So delighted to pick up an award for my beekeeping doc “Centenary Film” and to get some lovely feedback too. The film combined two of my passions – film making and nature and this turned out to be the perfect festival for that.
With our film voted BEST FEATURE FILM at the festival, and a very friendly communication with your festival we are quite happy.

Split Focus, 5min,. USA Directed by Cherie Carson “Split Focus” is a captivating dance film that delves into the intricate relationship between self-perception and external projection. Through mesmerizing shadow play, the film explores images of spirit and internal feelings versus outward appearances, prompting viewers to question which aspect demands more attention— the dancer herself or her shadow. Visually poetic, it offers a compelling examination of how we project ourselves into the world and the duality of inner and outer identities.
HALLWAYS, 2min., USA Directed by Elizabeth Sears Hallways is a dance film about independence and resilience in the midst of ambiguity. A mix of uncertainty and confidence permeates the choices we makes when navigating the external forces swirling around us.

MATTER, 21min., USA Directed by Gabe Katz, Mike Murphy A young woman enters into a journey of self-exploration, discovery, and identity. As she travels through the ephemeral, working through her understanding of self-perception, other travelers within the same universe try to join. These travelers soon realize that her story is not for them to mimic or assume, but to discover through their own experiences. They learn to accept that one can be empathetic to the experiences of others, without being central to the plot. These travelers become members of a creative community, observing and understanding a greater universal struggle: accepting oneself as a thread within the fabric of existence, and not the fabric itself. The young woman continues on her journey within the greater schema of reality. She endures everything and nothing all at once—accepting her present reality for its momentous nature, knowing it will be quickly lost to the vastness of time.
7 Veils, 7min., Greece Directed by Evi Tzortzi, Giorgos Alexakis The essence of life is protected by seven veils. One after the other, all veils are lifted. Past is explained, faith in life is restored, the eternal spiral is still alive.
A grizzly bear and a polar bear mate as a result of climate change and in an attempt to find food for their “grolar bear” cub the male polar bear must leave the safety of their ice cave to hunt and find sustenance for his new family in a harsh and increasingly difficult environment. He encounters humans and gets himself into a bit of trouble while simply trying to survive and provide for his family.
It is a story about the Canary in the coal mine of climate change – Grolar bears. Grolar bears are a new hybrid species, a mutation resulting from the union of a polar bear and a grizzly due to habitat overlap caused by climate change. This is a comical, yet heartfelt story of one father’s mission to feed his young grolar bear cub or face starvation. His nightmare begins when he encounters humans. Will he survive a nightmare lost among humans and get back safely to his family and save his cub? Or will his family be another casualty of our greed and exploitation of our planet’s resources?
