In early September 2013 she became ill and later was diagnosed with lupus myelitis. As a result of the disease she suffers from muscle weakness that led to difficulty walking, especially on the stairs, and she wears an orthopedic collar to keep the head up.

When asked in school to draw what she would be when she got older, 6 year old Spencer drew herself on-stage with a star over her head. Two years later, she had enrolled in acting classes and immediately started booking numerous television commercials in the Orlando, Florida area.
