“Keep your eye on the dough-nut not the hole” my father always said. Now, as adult, I understand. He was saying focus on what you love, your art…and not beyond it.

On Keanu Reeves: They love Keanu and he was so generous with his responses. There was never even a hint that he found any of this intrusive.

[on Darryl F. Zanuck] Nobody liked working for Zanuck, the little goddamn Napoleon, always walking around with his polo mallet. Nobody had any respect for him except as an executive. And he was a good editor at one time, but he fancied himself a writer, and he was not a good writer.

[on Cecil B. DeMille] I was very fond of him. I never saw him direct an actor; his specialty was the camera. He simply hired the best…

Jimi Hendrix (1942–1970)

Born: November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington, USA
Died: September 18, 1970 (age 27) in Notting Hill, London, England, UK

I will be dead in five years’ time, but while I am here, I will travel many highways and I will, of necessity, die at a time when my message of love, peace and freedom can be shared with people all over the world.
Once you’re dead, you’re made for life.

When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

I can’t express myself in any conversation… But when I’m up on stage, it’s all the world. It’s my whole life.

I’d like to get something together, like with Handel, and Bach, and Muddy Waters, flamenco type of thing… If I could get that sound, I’d be happy.

Childhood role as Steve Urkel on the sitcom Family Matters

Writing is still on my slate.

I’ve been in this business 31 years. I’ve never had a movie deal.

[1999, on his role as Steve Urkel on Family Matters (1989)] If you ever see me do that character again, take me out and put a bullet in my head and put me out of my misery.

Elaine Aronson (1994 – present) (1 child)

[on Risky Business (1983)] It was a very, very strange because I had trained to be a stage actor, and that was my goal. My goal was not to make movies or do television. That wasn’t on my agenda at all. The fact that I was doing an off-Broadway play in New York and got some attention, and people started sending me out for film auditions. That’s just one of those things that happened. I assumed, especially since the ones I’d gone in on, I hadn’t gotten, that this was just part of my job. I have to go in and read for these people, but there was no thought of – and so when I got this part – in the first place, of course, Tom [Cruise] was all of…

I left my marriage only when I felt like I was going to die physically or die emotionally. It’s just amazing what becomes your normal. One day you wake up with a knife at your throat. Another day you find your shoes torn up. But now we’re in world where we are far more connected and involved in each other’s lives because of social media. Bill Nye

[advice to young scientists] Try things then clean up after yourself. Then try some more things and clean that up too.

Our country is the only country in the world that has some people that don’t believe in evolution. America is still the leader in scientific advancement, and yet we have adults who want to ignore the evidence of millions and millions of years to believe something much more complicated and complex with zero proof. It’s important that our children are raised to be educated, well-rounded tax paying citizens that understand the importance of technology and science. If you’re an adult and you choose not to believe in science, fine, but please don’t prevent your children from learning about it and letting them draw their own conclusions. I think in 30-40 years this won’t even be an issue…

I am much more wired to be an athlete than anything else. I understand the ‘hard work = payoff’ equation in sports. I run marathons and I box. And that’s my Puerto Rican flag hanging in Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing gym. I gave it to him. My last N.Y.C. marathon time I ran in three hours flat.
