1. What is your stage play about?

“Helen Reddy Would Be Ashamed” is about a group of teenagers at an all-girls’ school that have to pick a topic to work on for their social justice class. One of them suggests feminism, which the others feel is a pointless topic to bring up in their always pro-woman environment.

2. Why does this play need to be performed at the theatre?

The story takes place in a high school classroom and high school, to me, felt a lot like theatre. Everything was very high energy and the girls in the play are too. I think you can feel that best in a live performance.

1. What is your stage play about?

My play is a meditation, in iambic verse, on the acceptance in ancient myths of sexual violence as a prerogative of the gods (for which one might read: “the powerful”) and the ways in which that ethos is finally starting to be broken in contemporary culture.

2. Why does this play need to be performed at the theatre?

I’m not sure this (or any) play needs to be performed. But I think its formal classicism and contemporary theme make for an interesting blend that might just please audiences.

SYNOPSIS:

The series follows the journey of Dick Grayson from average student to Robin to Nightwing. In the pilot, Dick, an acrobat during the summer with his parents, begins school at Crestwood Academy, a prestigious private school just down the road from the shuttered and mysterious Wayne Manor. A scholarship student, he is quickly labeled “the circus boy” and is publicly humiliated by the school jock. Offered the chance to get even, Dick gets into an unexpectedly dangerous situation that ultimately puts him on a collision course with destiny.

I entered the TV Festival because it was recommended on moviebytes.com. It was highly rated, and I liked that I would receive feedback regardless of the outcome of my script. Good feedback is hard to find, and so I decided to do it. The feedback received was very valid and constructive.

I’d been studying the films of Krzysztof Kieslowski (Double Life of Veronique, Dekalog, Blue, White Red) when I was writing “the good boy”. Watching those masterpieces, you can’t help but think about moral dilemmas. Why do people knowingly decide to do something that they know is morally wrong?
