Review by Andie Kay:
This dramatic thriller, written and directed by Christy Marchuk, was absolutely amazing. I adored how the story unfolded, giving the audience a mystery to unravel with enough hints to keep us hooked but without spoon feeding us. Wonderful storytelling and the cast was incredible. From the leading roles to the ‘under 5’s’ everyone was realistic and just fantastic. Savannah Henry who portrays Billi, had a beautiful spectrum of emotions that was organic and believable. Her parents, played by Tom Carey and Mary Armstrong were relatable and you could feel their struggle. CJ Collard who portrays Dean, understood how to use that intense state to make you shiver.
It wasn’t just the writing and the cast who shined, it was everything about this film. Director of Photography Noah Fallis did such a crazy, gorgeous job on the cinematography. I loved some of the extreme close ups to convey fear, confusion and panic. Very clever filmmaking that draws the audience deeper into the story. Costume designers Natasha Soutar and Ines Fatine found some very specific uniforms, jumpsuits and wardrobe that really sold the actors’ roles. The sets were equally as terrific! I absolutely have to mention Brendan Schmidt who was the colorist, he made each frame look gorgeous. Plus the music that the filmmakers chose was absolutely spot on.
Christy Marchuk and Wednesday’s Child Films really understood filmmaking and why the details matter. I am so excited to see what this group does next because I know it’s going to be epic.
