Read the best quotes of the iconic playwright and screenwriter Neil Simon.

Talent is the gift plus the passion – a desire to succeed so intense that no force on earth can stop it.

Once you start compromising your thoughts, you’re a candidate for mediocrity.

I much prefer writing an original movie with the screen in mind to transferring a play to the screen.

I love living. I have some problems with my life, but living is the best thing they’ve come up with so far.
I firmly believe that if you follow a path that interests you, not to the exclusion of love, sensitivity, and cooperation with others, but with the strength of conviction that you can move others by your own efforts, and do not make success or failure the criteria by which…

Happy Birthday: Neil Simon

Born: July 4, 1927 in The Bronx, New York City, New York, USA

QUOTES:

When it’s 100 in New York, it’s 72 in Los Angeles. When it’s 20 in New York, it’s 72 in Los Angeles. However, there are six million interesting people in New York – and 72 in Los Angeles.

On writing 1991’s “The Marrying Man”: “With a play, I have only two people to please – myself and the director. With this movie, it was 19 executives, a director who’d never done anything but animation before, and two stars who would tell you what lines they’d say and what lines they wouldn’t say.”

On Hollywood: “Everyone in Hollywood is looking for a blockbuster. They tell you their last movie ‘only grossed $70 million,’ as if that were some kind of crime.”

I don’t like writing for comedians. I like writing for actors. The best comedians are the best actors.

Happy Birthday: Eric Fleming (1925–1966)

Born: July 4, 1925 in Santa Paula, California, USA

Died: September 28, 1966 (age 41) in Tingo Maria area, Peru

Drowned while filming a TV scene in Peru at age 41.

During Fleming’s enlistment in the Seabees in 1942, his face was shattered when a 200-pound block of steel slipped from a hoist. A long convalescence and four plastic surgical procedures created the face familiar to Rawhide (1959) viewers.

Fleming was unmarried and had no children. He was to have married long-time companion Lynne Garber within two days of his death.

His mother’s maiden name was Anderson.

[re August: Osage County (2013)]I know that there’s another dimension in the film that is not in the play, and that’s Osage County. I would take them [filmmakers] to my home and show them the landscape, that’s kind of profound for me as a guy who not only has written a play, but written a play that’s somewhat autobiographical. The landscape itself becomes a character.

Married to: Javier Rigau y Rafols (November 2010 – present) (separated)

Milko Skofic (15 January 1949 – 25 June 1971) (divorced) (1 child)

QUOTES:

Popularity has a bright side, it unlocks many doors. But the truth is that I don’t like it very much because it changes the private life into a very small thing.

My cinema — the ’50s, ’60s — is different from the cinema today so I thought that it would not be bad to show that kind of cinema where we could dream.

There is only one trouble with having played the most famous courtesan of all times and that is, after Sheba, all other roles will certainly seem tame and anticlimactic.

I’ve had many lovers and still have romances. I am very spoiled. All my life, I’ve had too many admirers.

I do what I like now. I just don’t have time for it all.

A woman at 20 is like ice, at 30 she is warm and at 40 she is hot.
I have experience seducing nephews.
