Film Review: 116, USA, Romance/Experimental

A beautiful mature woman wakes up in a hotel with a beautiful young man. Sounds great yes? Certainly. What follows is an sizzling experimental romantic piece- the dialogue utilizing only lines from Shakespeare’s sonnets. 116, directed by Julia Campanelli, will delight a Shakespeare lover. And if you are not a lover of Shakespeare, then you will love the rich and sumptuous details loving woven into this piece. It sizzles and crackles with sexual energy and rich and lush sense of heavy dramatic style.

Being and experimental film, it is best to go into 116 with an open mind, as it is highly interpretive. We do not know the relationship of the man and woman (although we can guess, wink, wink) There sensual, passionate, dramatic yet playful struggles are not made overtly clear by the use of the minimalist interpretive scripts of Shakespeare’s sonnets. But 116 is a delight to watch. It has intensity, romance and sparkles with lust. Who wouldn’t love it?

A sizzling, tantalizing, nerve-tingling show of physical pleasures- TASTE OF LOVE is a dive into the sensual world of self-discovery. Filled to bursting with tangible physical metaphors and riveting images, TASTE OF LOVE may have you squirming in your seat.

Our story follows a young woman on her journey to explore what love tastes like- and in her journey, she finds herself engulfed in a variety of new experiences, bringing her into the world of sweet, salty, bitter and sour.

Bright and colorful, with the intensity of a dance-party on a drug trip, this is a film that slams into you and demands not just to be seen, but to be felt. Visual, intense and sinfully vibrant, TASTE OF LOVE is not to miss.

Film Review: SUNDAY AFTER, 3min. Canada, Romance/Experimental

Played at the February 2017 ROMANCE Film Festival

MOVIE POSTERSUNDAY AFTER, 3min. Canada, Romance/Experimental
Directed by Nathalie Cusson

What to do on a Sunday afternoon? There are many ways to spend spare time; The one depicted in this short film might be among the best options.

Review by Kierston Drier

A silky smooth symbolic look at sensual visual stimulation, Sunday Afternoon is a delight for the senses. A Canadian experimental film directed by Nathalie Cusson, this piece is a three minute dive into erotic visual metaphor.

Set against hypnotic music, soft, velvety images and alluringly entrancing close ups of feathers, silk sheets and pearly droplets of water, Sunday Afternoon will have you tingling all over and unsure as to why.

As a three minute experimental film, this piece leaves itself open to interpretation, and yet it remains unmistakably clear. We may not be sure what we are looking at as the audience but we certainly know it’s sexy. It is the testament to good filmmaking, that a metaphor can be so clear and appealing, and remain utterly innocent of overt references.

Tantalizing while remaining obscure, Sunday Afternoon is a delight for the senses, and may very well give you some ideas for how you might want to spend your next long weekend.
